My Mother Said, “You’re a Woman Now, Stay Free.”
At night,
In my dream-decorated sleep
I walked on a bed of flowers
Lost in the cushion
My eyes lost its vision
Quick…my feet have slipped!
And I then I woke up
In a red wet blanket
With an aching body
And the clock struck
A long period…!
With eyes filled with tears
I stood in fear
Confused of what was next
And of what had just passed.
The answer came from my mother
With a warm tight hug
A gentle pinch on my cheek…
You’re a woman now
Stay free
And she winked.
Still hurting with the trauma that I’d had
I gazed vacantly at the pad
Thinking of what was next
And of what had just passed.
But I never knew then
That I was waving a red flag
To the child who’d grow in me
You’re a woman now
Stay free
