First Period Memoir: The Period Paradox
A drop
A strange red
Such was the beginning of my womanhood.
A glorious day
The sun smiling wide
And so was I until
I woke up with blood,
Without war, without injury
Nothing had changed, yet everything had changed
Glancing at the red drops,
Life flashing before my eyes,
I decided I was done.
Menstruation, they said,
Puberty, they said,
But all I saw was red.
My father smiled,
My mother cried,
I just stared.
I had blossomed into a flower,
So they said,
I had got my first period.
Well, period,
I said to it,
You made me miss my first period!
